For a Difficult Day

All day I’ve been considering what is an appropriate statement for me to make about last night’s announcement that a grand jury has failed to indict Darren Wilson, the police officer who killed Michael Brown.   Some would say that I should tell you that I am outraged.  Or tell you to attend a protest or recognize white privilege. Or tell you that the United States is a racist country where black people continue to be systematically oppressed.  But I feel that you may already know these things.  What you may not know in this moment is that you have the capacity to be with the pain and anger that you are feeling, and that you can be present with the injustice and cruelty of the world without becoming overwhelmed or impotent.  That by staying present and aware, insight will arise, and you will have clear intentions from which to take skillful action.

We are here to support the efforts of our community to use their thoughts, words, and deeds wisely and compassionately for the benefit of all beings.

May we all recognize each other as sisters and brothers.
